Legislative powers are requested for Parlasur

Tags Parlasur - Mercosur

During the XXXIII ordinary session of the Mercosur Parliament (15-17 August 2015), MP Alfonso González Núñez, president of the Paraguayan delegation, urged member States to take a decisive steps toward regional integration, by endowing the Parlasur with full legislative powers.

Indeed, according to the MP, it is about time that the Mercosur enters the final stage of its integration process, that should be characterised by an effective supranationality.

To this end, regional institutions, namely the Parlasur and the Permanent Court of Review, should be endowed with binding powers similar to those exercised by national parliaments and courts, thus following the example of the European Union, which is judged as “the model” of regional integration in the world.
